UHBW Musician in Residence

As well as her public-facing work, Tamsin is a Musician in Residence at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, where she composes meditative pieces and performs them alongside traditional material on wards, in the ICU and in public spaces within the hospitals for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.

Music for Hospitals

Music for Hospitals (volume i) is a four track EP of harp pieces composed as part of Tamsin’s work as a Musician in Resident at UHBW NHS Trust.

Although written for the patients Tamsin plays for, the tracks are inspired by things she dearly missed when she was a patient herself for long periods of time in her twenties. Her goal with this music is to bring a sense of peace into the hospitals, providing respite from the busy environment and sparking conversations on wards.

The EP is available on Spotify and other streaming services for patients (and anyone!) to listen to at any time. Tamsin would also like to make the digital audio files available for free for loading onto hospital music-playing devices, and for use on hospital radio. Get in touch via the contact form if you'd like to access the files.

Listen In (2023)

'Listen In', a collaborative composition with fellow UHBW Musician in Residence Beth Roberts and Poet in Residence Beth Calverley, centres the voices and stories of NHS staff members against a backdrop of harp, field recordings, poetry and vocals.

The piece was commissioned by Our National Health Stories, an unprecedented collaboration between 19 NHS trusts across England with a creative team led by Young Vic director Kwame Kwei-Armah.

Watch from 27:39 to see the piece performed live at the launch in Manchester.
